R. Nakagama opened the first store in Lethbridge in September 1947 on 1st Avenue South, relocating to its current location at 2nd Avenue and 4th Street South in 1955. Originally serving primarily Southern Alberta’s Japanese-Canadian community, the store has since evolved into a unique emporium offering Japanese foods, snacks, candy, giftware, novelties, and kitchenware to customers from all backgrounds.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff are available to assist with anything from preparing a simple Japanese dish to planning a full-course meal. The store features a growing selection of unique giftware, including ceramic dishware, tea sets, sake sets, decorative fans, dolls, and chopstick sets. Home accent pieces such as lamps and wall hangings are also available, with new items arriving regularly to enhance both kitchen and living spaces.
Visitors are welcome to shop or simply browse and enjoy a glimpse of Japanese culture, right in the heart of Lethbridge.
