Lethbridge Symphony Series VI: Fury and Power – An Evening with Brahms

With his Piano Concerto No. 1, Brahms intended to combine piano and orchestra as equal partners – no small feat for any composer! This work is known for its scale, grandeur, and technical difficulty.  Prepare to be amazed as you hear the keyboard masterfully played by special guest artist Deanna Oye.

The LSO finishes its season with the last of Brahms’ symphonies, the Fourth.  This work has been described as “powerfully organic and continuously unfolding”, and Brahms himself conducted its premiere in 1885.  One critic exclaimed later that as he listened to the first movement, he “had the feeling that [he] was being given a beating by two incredibly intelligent people”.  Now, isn’t that the most exciting reason to attend the symphony?
