Lethbridge Symphony Series V: Passion and Grace – An Easter Reflection

To begin the program and set the tone for the concert, these three chorales of  J.S. Bach boast multi-layered resonant musical lines and showcase the brilliant ringing  timbres of brass instruments, all masterfully arranged by Enrique Crespo.

Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G Minor begins with a dark theme, becomes lightly lyrical, descends into an angry highly-accented rhythm, and concludes with an intense finale.  This, you must hear.  From passion to grace, from lightness to tragedy, this work is held in high esteem as a “symphony of all symphonies”.

Kim Arnesen’s Stabat Mater prompts the listener to feel the grief of a child’s life taken too soon.  This work explores the Virgin Mary’s deep sorrow at her Son’s crucifixion.  The LSO is joined by Ventus Women’s Choir & Cantrice Women’s Ensemble, together bringing us this work of reflection, sorrow, and hope.
