Today, three entrepreneurs pitched their business ideas to our Downtown Dragons and negotiated on downtown spaces. This is all part of the Building Business Downtown project: A Dragon’s Den- style pitch competition, with the entrepreneurs looking to make deals on leases in downtown spaces.
The first entrepreneur to pitch today was Phoenix fitness, they are all about E-bikes and E-scooters. The second was David from Accrual Accounting, and last to pitch was Riley with Cookie Crimes YQL.
There are 6 dragons of which are all landlords owning multiple properties downtown:
Debbie Henderson - Park Place
Ken Harvie- Paramount building
Tim Hachkowski- Sumus Properties
Hunter Heggie- King of Trade Lethbridge
Mary- Old fire hall
Andrea Sandul- The Port YQL
In the end, Ken Harvie, Hunter Heggie and Andrea Sandul left with no deals, as they weren’t quite the right fit. Mary, Tim and Debbie are continuing to talk with the entrepreneurs to see if they can open a business downtown. UPDATE: The winner of the Building Business Downtown is David with Accural Accounting!
It was an exciting day for all involved in the project, as months of planning and preparation went into its execution. We at the office couldn’t be more excited to see eager entrepreneurs wanting to open up shop in Downtown Lethbridge.
In addition, we’d like to thank our project partners Economic Development Lethbridge, Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce, Community Futures Lethbridge, Regional Innovation Network of Southern Alberta (RINSA), London Road Marketing and Legend Productions. Lastly, we thank the Heart of Our City Committee and the Reimagine Downtown Activation Grant for providing support for this project.
