Toro Nagashi

Toro Nagashi

August 14, 5 to 10PM (last entry at 9:30PM)

Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden will be celebrating Toro Nagashi this August 14. Guests can float a water lantern to help guide the souls of deceased friends and family to the spirit world. Toro Nagashi, meaning "flowing lanterns", also typically marks the end of Obon, which is a Buddhist festival that honours the spirits of one’s ancestors. It is a moving and healing ceremony and can help greatly in the grieving process. This ceremony is included with your admission to the garden. Have volunteers write a special message in calligraphy for your lantern.

Toro Nagashi will run from 5-10PM, with the last entry to the garden at 9:30PM. Take advantage of our Yugata (Evening) Pricing for only $7/person after 5PM. Special pricing only available at the Visitors Centre.
