AUG 20 | Food, Culture, and Community Special guest Dr. Dawn Johnston discusses the important role food plays in culture, community, and regional celebration.
With special attention to Calgary Stampede food traditions and the role Calgary’s food community played during the 2013 floods, Dawn shares stories and research about the social and political significance of food in contemporary culture.
Dawn Johnston holds a PhD in Communications Studies from the department of Communication and culture at the University of Calgary, where she has been a faculty member since 2007. Her research interests include food culture, activism, media studies, and gender and sexuality in popular culture. She is a transplanted Newfoundlander who has been enjoying big Alberta sky since 1997.
